This all-day hike is a fantastic blend of woodland, coastal trails, and local history. The walk kicks off at Sandling, taking you through peaceful woods before descending to the coast. From there, you get a great mix of local sightseeing at Saltwood Castle, scenic stretches along Sandgate and Mermaid Beach, and a lively finish at the Folkestone Harbour Arm and town centre. Highlights Terrain & Effort: The trail is smoothly walkable along the beach, featuring just one real uphill challenge to get your heart rate going without wearing you out. Scenery: Great variety—shifting from quiet woodland paths straight out of Sandling to open ocean views along Sandgate and Mermaid Beach. Stopovers: Ending near the Folkestone Harbour Arm and town centre makes for a great reward, with plenty of options to grab food and explore. It's a full-day commitment, but well worth it if you're looking for a balanced coastal walk that hits nature, historic sights, and vibrant local spots.

A fantastic hike from Hassocks to Brighton via Devil’s Dyke! What a brilliant day out and a beautiful route. The hike from Hassocks to Devil’s Dyke and on to Brighton was a perfect combination of stunning countryside, rolling hills, dramatic views and a real sense of achievement. The highlight was undoubtedly Devil’s Dyke, with its spectacular views across the South Downs. The scenery throughout the walk was fantastic, and the changing landscapes made the route interesting from start to finish. There were plenty of opportunities to stop, take in the views, and appreciate the beauty of the Sussex countryside. The final stretch towards Brighton was a great way to finish the adventure — tired legs, but a huge sense of satisfaction! It’s a challenging but very rewarding walk, especially for anyone who enjoys being outdoors and exploring beautiful trails. Highly recommended! A memorable hike, great scenery, and a wonderful experience from Hassocks all the way to Brighton. Definitely a route I would happily do again.
